JAMES RIVER SEARCH FOR CANOEIST RESUMES

Divers from the Charlottesville-Albemarle rescue squad and Albemarle police plan to resume a search today for a Richmond man who fell out of a canoe on the James River and is presumed drowned, police said.

Andrew C. Sluiter, a 40-year-old insurance office manager, slipped out of his unzipped life jacket Friday after he and David L. Cushing struggled with their capsized canoe nearly 100 feet off the river's north bank, Cushing said.

About 40 searchers suspended efforts to find Sluiter's body late Friday afternoon, Scottsville Police Chief Lee Loving said.
