THE END of the Gulf War has been an economic godsend for the
intimate-apparel business. Shops such as Frederick's of Hollywood say sales
are booming as wives and girlfriends prepare for the homecoming of military
servicemen. And what of the troops of women who also took part in Operation
Desert Storm? Says a spokesman for one shop: "The big surprise has been the
amount of men buying lingerie for their returning wives." Why should that be a
big surprise?
