TIPS FOR NEW JOB SEEKERS

Offer to work for a company for a month without pay. You have nothing to lose, and you will demonstrate aggressiveness and self-confidence.

Try to get an internship. Some pay salaries; some just offer experience.

Check computerized job banks. Some charge companies for viewing students' resumes; others require students to pay a listing fee.

Network with friends and acquaintances for job leads. It probably continues to be the best job-getting technique although answering advertisements in newspapers and trade journals can help.

Join the Peace Corps or other volunteer groups that send people overseas to developing nations.

Charitable organizations can always use volunteers, providing them with the chance to hone skills in such areas as finance, social work, teaching and fund-raising.

The armed forces offer well-paid jobs for college graduates, including opportunities for graduate study.

Take work that does not fit career plans, such as at fast-food chains. Resort hotels and landscaping and construction companies need extra help during warm seasons.
