UVA EDGES MARYLAND IN MEN'S LACROSSE

Fifth-ranked Virginia raced to a 10-4 lead and hung on for a 10-9 men's lacrosse victory against seventh-ranked Maryland on Saturday.

Time ran out on the Terrapins, who scored five goals in the fourth quarter and closed to 10-9 with 1:18 remaining. Maryland (5-2 overall, 1-2 ACC) outshot UVa 21-6 in the last quarter.

Andy Kraus led the Cavaliers (7-1, 2-0) with four goals, and goalie Tom Groeninger had 17 saves, including seven in the fourth. UVa defenders George Glyphis and Mike Schattner shut out leading Maryland attacker Rob Wurzburger.

Virginia led 7-3 at halftime, outshooting Maryland 32-15.
