20-YEAR TERM ADVISED FOR WOMAN CONVICTED OF SHOOTING HER FATHER

A Greene County Circuit Court jury recommended that a 19-year-old woman serve a 20-year sentence in the shotgun slaying of her father.

The jury on Friday convicted Lisa Sargent of second-degree murder in the slaying of Morgan Lee Breeden.

The defense contended Sargent shot Breeden in self-defense after years of abuse.

Sargent testified Thursday that she shot her father after he beat her the morning of Aug. 29 and later held a .22-caliber pistol in her face as she sat on a porch swing.

Commonwealth's Attorney Dan Bouton sought a first-degree murder conviction but said he was not disappointed with the verdict.
