RAKES, NELL B./ Nell Barnett Rakes, age 78, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 6, 1991, in a local hospital. She was a member of the Shenandoah Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley R. Thompson, Roanoke; Sylvia Jean Brown, San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Charles S. Rakes and Steven B. Rakes, both of Roanoke; two brothers, Ralph E. Barnett, Dublin; Melvin Barnett, Bluefield, W.Va.; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, with the Rev. Robert L. Alderman officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel.
