MAIL RATES LIKELY TO RISE FOR CHARITIES

The government subsidizes the cost of mail sent by non-profit organizations. But Postmaster General Anthony Frank says it seems unlikely that Congress will appropriate more money to cover the cost of the recent rate increase that boosted the first-class rate from a quarter to 29 cents.

Thus, the governors of the Postal Service are expected to consider a rate increase of as much as 15 percent for non-profit groups at their May meeting. - Associated Press
