CONVENTIONEERS SAY UFOS NO JOKE

The annual convention of UFO enthusiasts that ended Sunday was no laughing matter, an organizer said.

Lou Farish said he's heard the snickers. And he insisted it's no joke: Space aliens that visit the Soviet Union really do look different from those that visit the United States.

"I'm assuming the skeptics don't know anything about the subject or they don't want to face the implications of the subject," Farish said Sunday in a telephone interview from the third Ozark UFO Conference.

"The implication of the subject is we're definitely not alone. I don't know if we're in danger. There's that possibility," said the 53-year-old part-time postal clerk who publishes a newsclipping service about UFOs.

Speakers from around the world gave presentations about UFOs at the conference, which 400 people attended.

Sergei Bulantsev, 46, a UFO researcher from the Soviet Union, told conference-goers Saturday that aliens in his country are better looking than those in the United States.

"They're just like Europeans, like foreign tourists," Bulantsev said of the aliens that visit the Soviet Union. `

George Wingfield of Glastonbury, England, said circles are being cut out of crop fields all over the world. He said he was unsure why the incidents are increasing. "It does seem that there has been a sort of response to the fact that people are taking interest in the sightings," he said.

Linda Howe, a film producer, spoke about animal mutilations. Farish said a cow was mangled in Berryville two months ago by an incision produced by high heat, like a laser.
