The Cougars (3-2) won the see-saw game when right fielder Joey Bower reached first on a dropped third strike with none out.
Center fielder Richard Myers sacrificed Bower to second, and Bower scored on a single by left fielder Derrick Kemp.
Shortstop Ronnie Hamblin had two hits in four at-bats. Bower also had a pair of hits and knocked in three runs.
Richard Myers pitched two shutout innings in relief to pick up his second victory in two decisions.

At Galax, the Maroon Tide outslugged Fort Chiswell 10-7 in a non-district game between two Mountain Empire District rivals.
Galax (3-3) trailed 7-1 after two innings but rallied behind second baseman Dirk Hill, who had three singles and a double in four at-bats. He also stole three bases.
First baseman Lynn Crockett hit a two-run homer in the third as the rally started, and shortstop Randy Billings smacked a two-run shot in the fifth as Galax took an 8-7 lead on a squeeze bunt.
Jeff Spells went all the way and settled down to pitch four shutout innings after giving up seven early runs, five unearned.
Second baseman B.W. Hill had two hits in four at-bats for Fort Chiswell (3-2).
At Narrows, the Green Wave pounded Rocky Gap 11-1 in a non-district game between two Mountain Empire rivals. Chris Dunford had four hits in four trips and scored a pair of runs, and Robbe Patteson added a three-run homer for Narrows (4-1).
At Floyd County, Shawsville's Scott Phillips went the distance for his third straight win as the Shawnees (6-1) took a 10-5 non-district victory from the Buffaloes (2-6).
Phillips had 11 strikeouts, five walks and gave up six hits in seven innings. Floyd County's three errors in the second inning led to six unearned runs.
Jimmy Sober and Mark Collins each had two hits for Shawsville. Floyd County got two hits apiece from Jeff Bennett and Brad Huff.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: Andy McDonald scored the game's only goal 20 minutes into the second half as North Cross (7-0-1) nipped Martinsville 1-0 in a non-district match on the Bulldogs' field.
