The committee will review the applications and ultimately forward a recommendation to university president Donald N. Dedmon.
The recommendation could be for a new coach, for two or more people to be brought in for interviews or for the university to continue the search.
The third possibility seems unlikely. University officials believe that, although the position was not advertised nationally until Monday, those candidates who should know about the opening have had time to act, a source familiar with the search said.
Chuck Taylor, the university's athletic director, chairs the 12-person committee, which also contains four students. If the committee and Taylor do not agree on a recommendation, he could present Dedmon with one of his own.
"We've really got a quality pool of applicants, really excellent," Taylor said.
A number of names have surfaced as being interested in the job, but speculation persists that Ron Bradley is the leading - some say only - contender.
Bradley, 40, was Radford's top assistant under Oliver Purnell, who left to take over the program at Old Dominion.
Those on the committee include Charles Wood, Dedmon's executive assistant; political science professor Franklin Jones; art professor Lynn Gordon; mathematics professor Coreen Mett; intramural director Gary Upp; administrator Jerry Hutchens; NCAA faculty representative Val Mah; and undergraduates Jason Crookshanks, Mia Pavitt, Kenny Ose and Steven DeHarde.
