SPRING CLEANUP SET IN CHRISTIANSBURG

Spring cleanup began Monday and continues through April 20.

This is the town's semi-annual cleanup, held in cooperation with the Montgomery County Improvement Council.

A free "Start Thinking, Stop Littering" motor vehicle litter bag may be picked up at the town treasurer's office, Chamber of Commerce or the library on Sheltman Street.

Residents wanting special trash pickup during the drive may place the materials with their garbage on their regular trash pickup day.

Extra materials - with the exception of construction waste, heavy machinery and appliances - will be picked up by special trucks. Loose materials, such as cold ashes, must be placed in containers no bigger than 32 gallons.

Loose leaves must be piled separately from trash, tree limbs and trimmings and will be picked up by the leaf vacuum. Residents are urged not to block drainage ditches.

Tree limbs and trimmings must be piled at the edge of the street right-of-way and must not be more than 4 inches in diameter. There will be no charge for this during cleanup weeks.

Citizens are urged to take recyclables to the nearest collection points. Copies of recycling-center locations may be picked up at the Municipal Building.
