John William Austin, II, age 65, of 2151 Broadway Ave., S.W., died Tuesday, April 9, 1991, in a Roanoke hospital. A native of Botetourt County, he was a son of the late Dennis U. Austin, Sr., former Treasurer of Botetourt County, and Emily Burger Austin, Fincastle. He was educated at Lynchburg College and the University of Virginia. Mr. Austin was a student of history and genealogy and he, with his wife Rebecca, published Related Families of Botetourt County and several other histories of Botetourt County families. The Austin's owned and operated Services Unlimited Employment Agency for 33 years. Mr. Austin was a member of the Roanoke Historical Society, Historic Fincastle, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, St. John's Episcopal Church, Roanoke Genealogical Society, and the University of Virginia Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Holton Raper Austin; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Borden J. M. Austin, J. William B. and Laurie W. Austin, Holton Rinehart Austin, all of Roanoke; a brother, Dennis U. Austin, Jr., Roanoke; a sister, Katherine Austin Parker, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity. Services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. James Drinard Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery, Fincastle. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
