Richard Ernest Saunders, age 62, of Goodview, passed away Sunday, April 7, 1991. He worked for Norfolk Southern Railway for 41 years. Mr. Saunders was the owner of Saunders Pulpwood Yard for 34 years and the owner of Saunders Auto Sales for 25 years. He was a member of the Chamblissburg Masonic Lodge #197 for 40 years and was an Air Force veteran, serving in New Mexico and Korea. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Duncan Saunders; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Darryl Ernest and Terri M. Saunders, Bedford; Kevin Stacy Saunders and friend, Becky, Moneta; two daughters, Freda Annette Saunders and Trista Elizabeth Saunders, both of the home; one grandson, Christopher Ernest Saunders; two sisters, Mrs. Phelma S. Dickerson, Roanoke; Mrs. Gaye S. Peery, Richmond; two brothers, Edward W. Saunders, Crewe; Warren D. Saunders, Moneta; mother-in-law, Robbie Rabin, Bedford. Funeral services will be at the Beaver Damn Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in the Beaver Damn Baptist Church Cemetery. Masonic Rites by the Chamblissburg Masonic Lodge #197 will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chamblissburg, Moneta and Stewartsville Rescue Squads. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
