Robert Raymond Martin, age 77, of Narrows, died Monday in a Roanoke hospital. He was born in Giles County on May 3, 1913, the son of the late Napoleon and Mary Price Martin. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows and the American Legion Post #68 of Narrows. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows and was a retired Millwright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn T. Martin and a son, Robert Raymond Martin, Jr. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Minor C. and Barbara Jane Tawney, Blacksburg; Curtis M. and Violet S. Tawney; Buford L. Tawney, both of Narrows; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Dana Carper, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Gerandine Lawson, Hampton; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, with the Rev. Ralph Kidd officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg, with services conducted by the V.F.W. Post #6000 and the American Legion Post #68, both of Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.
