SEVERE STORM CUTS POWER TO HUNDREDS

About 100 residents of the Roanoke Valley were without electricity Tuesday night after a storm packing high winds, heavy rains and severe lightning cut through the region.

By 11 p.m., about half of those residents had power restored.

Charles Echols, a spokesman for Appalachian Power Co., said another 35 customers in Franklin County were without power for a while. By 11 p.m., about 25 still did not have electricity.

Throughout the region, electricity customers in Fieldale in Henry County appeared to be hardest hit. About 400 to 500 customers were still without power late Tuesday night.
