SEVERE STORM CUTS POWER TO HUNDREDS

Power has been returned to all but five residents in Fieldale and Rocky Mount after a storm packing high winds, heavy rains and severe lightning cut electricity to about 100 residents of the Roanoke Valley and 400 to 500 people in the Henry County area Tuesday night.

By 11 p.m., about half of those residents had power restored.

Charles Echols, a spokesman for Appalachian Power Co., said another 35 customers in Franklin County were without power for a while. By 11 p.m., about 25 still did not have electricity.

Throughout the region, electricity customers in Fieldale in Henry County appeared to be hardest hit.
