MAN WHO FLED PRISON IN 1972 CAUGHT

A man who escaped from the State Penitentiary in Richmond 19 years ago has been caught by federal marshals in Norfolk.

David Bazemore, 63, was stopped Tuesday near his brother's home, which had been under surveillance, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Joseph Perkins.

Bazemore surrendered without resistance and was turned over to state authorities.

Perkins said Bazemore had been serving a 26-year sentence for armed robbery when he escaped in 1972 from the prison's license tag warehouse.
