ROANOKE MAN IS STABLE AFTER SHOOTING

A 35-year-old Roanoke man was in stable condition today after being shot in the thigh early this morning on Hershberger Road, Roanoke authorities said.

Richard Earl Shaver of the 5000 block of Morwanda Street Northwest told police he and another man were eastbound on Hershberger Road just after midnight when a blue compact car pulled into their path.

When the car pulled off the road, Shaver and a friend riding with him pulled in behind it, police said.

Shaver said a man jumped out of the blue car and fired two shots from a handgun, hitting him once in the left thigh.

Police found two casings from a 9-mm automatic weapon on the ground. The blue car has not been located.
