GILES SCHOOL EMPLOYEES TO GET 3.5% PAY RAISES

Giles County school employees will receive raises of 3.5 percent in the School Board budget approved this week by the county Board of Supervisors.

The budget totals nearly $11.7 million for 1991-92, an increase of slightly less than 1 percent, school officials said. This includes $59,733 more in county money than this year and $150,000 carried over from the current school budget.

Major reductions for next year, starting July 1, include the elimination of three administrative positions, a clerical job and 1 1/2 custodial jobs. Other savings include a rate reduction in the Virginia retirement system, the closing of King Johnston Elementary School and a delay of capital projects.
