IN SERVICE

MAJ. ROBERT L. COLEMAN, son of Rachel M. Coleman of Pearisburg and a 1976 Giles High School graduate, was decorated with the Army Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the line of duty. Coleman is an anesthesia operative-services chief at the Keller Army Hospital at West Point and received his doctorate in 1984 from the University of Virginia.

\ CAPT. JEFFREY K. BRIGGS, a 1984 graduate of Virginia Tech, was decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal for demonstrating outstanding achievement or meritorius service in the line of duty. He is an air-weapons director at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

\ LT. ROBIN LANDERS, son of Ruth Landers of Radford and grandson of Mrs. Calvin Howell and the late Calvin A. Howell of Floyd, received the Eighth Air Force Crew Member Excellence Award for achieving high scores on five proficiency evaluations. The award is considered by the missile crew force to be one of the highest attainable. Landers is a Christiansburg High School graduate and is working on his doctorate degree.

\ SGT. JENNIFER E. BURROUGHS, daughter of Brenda Johnson of Wytheville and Charles M. Burroughs of Riner, was decorated with the Air Force Achievement Medal, which is awarded for meritorious acts of courage or other outstanding accomplishments. She is an apprentice air-traffic control operator at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida.

\ ARMY SPC. BILLIE J. SIMMERMAN, daughter of William and Lois Simmerman of Dublin, was a member of the 1st Support Battalion in El Gorah, Egypt, participating in the multinational peacekeeping force as the primary U.S. military contingent in the Sinai. The mission was to operate checkpoints and observation posts and to conduct reconnaissance patrols along the Sinai Peninsula. Simmerman is a medical specialist and 1984 graduate of Pulaski County High School.

GRAHAM, son of Joseph and Edeltrand Graham of Elliston, to sergeant in the U.S. Air Force; and\ TOMMY W. PERDUE JR., son of Connie Perdue of Narrows and Tommy Perdue Sr. of Glen Lyn, to sergeant in the U.S. Army
