PAIGE WINS 4 EVENTS IN FLEMING WIN

Paul Paige put on a one-man show as William Fleming outscored visiting Pulaski County 84-48 in a boys' Roanoke Valley District track meet Wednesday. Paige won the high jump, 100-yard dash, triple jump and 220-yard dash.

Jeral Rhodes won the discus and shot put for the Colonels.

In other track and field:

Jeff Willoughby won the 100- and 200-meter dashes to highlight Cave Spring's 82-57 Roanoke Valley District boys' victory over visiting Patrick Henry.

Tonya Kabia captured the high jump, 100-yard hurdles and 330-yard hurdles, and Monica Cabbler won the long jump, triple jump and 220-yard dash as William Fleming beat visiting Pulaski County 80-70 in a Roanoke Valley District girls' meet.

At Christiansburg, Northside's Patti Fisher won the 110- and 330-meter hurdles and the long and triple jumps, but Christiansburg rolled to a 77-48 dual-meet girls' victory.

\ BASEBALL: At Buchanan, Brian Sink, Doug Monday and Ron Shotwell each had two runs batted in as James River outscored Northside 9-5 in a non-district game.

\ SOCCER: At Roanoke Catholic, Scott Sartini and P.J. McCarthy had two goals each as the Celtics (3-2) blitzed Miller School 6-1.

At Buchanan, William Perez, Tim Epperly, Shawn Callahan and Doug Bramblett provided the goals as Lord Botetourt defeated James River 4-1.

\ SOFTBALL: Melissa Markham was 4-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run home run as James River (5-0) won 17-13 against Lord Botetourt (0-4).

At Cave Spring, six walks and Pam Feazell's three-run double highlighted a 10-run second inning that lifted Salem (5-0) to a 15-8 victory against Cave Spring (3-2).

At William Fleming, Linda Bell stroked a two-run homer and Tammy Litton doubled in the winning runs in the seventh inning to give Fleming (2-4) a 12-10 win against Floyd County (2-2). The teams combined for 23 errors.
