GROUP OFFERS 2 HIKES ON HUCKLEBERRY TRAIL

People Advocating the Huckleberry (PATH) will sponsor two public hikes next week along the Huckleberry Trail, a proposed hiking and biking trail that will link Christiansburg and Blacksburg.

"This hike is for the curious," said Montgomery County Planner Susan Swain, who is involved in the project. "Anyone interested in the trail should come to see what this plan is all about."

The first hike will be Sunday at 2 p.m., the second Thursday at 4:30 p.m. In case of rain, both will be rescheduled.

Swain recommends comfortable clothing, since the path isn't completely cleared, and boots because the hike requires crossing a few streams.

The two-mile walk is expected to take about two hours and will be guided by Virginia Tech's civil engineering society.

Maps of the trail and information on PATH's project will be available. The group will meet at the entrance to Warm Hearth Retirement Village at the Huckleberry Lane stake.

Call Swain at 382-5750 for information.
