MALIGNED LETTER SHOWED PATRIOTISM

I FEEL COMPELLED to defend Paige Conner's letter (March 10). It showed great patriotism, admiration and respect for our troops in the Middle East and for our president. It asked some people to take a second look at their un-American attitudes.

It did not in any way project a "holier than thou" attitude, as Sheila Noell (letter, March 28) so rudely put it. Nor did it suggest that anyone's First Amendment rights were being taken away.

Ms. Conner's letter was terrific, only to be sacked by someone who apparently didn't understand a word of it. Ms. Conner was merely expressing her opinion. Maybe Ms. Noell needs to reread her Bill of Rights! TOBIE CRUFF SALEM
