\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MARIDEL G. VELOSO, daughter of Eduardo C. and Flordeliza S. Veloso of 910 Mountain Road N.W., has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla. She is a 1990 graduate of Salem High School.
\ MAJ. JUDY C. STRICKLAND, daughter of Doris J. Strickland of Roanoke, has been called to active duty to help support Operation Desert Storm. Strickland joined other members of the 94th Medical Squadron who were deployed to Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., Jan. 31. A graduate of James River High School, she received a bachelor of science degree at the Medical College of Virginia.
\ AIRMAN\ JOSEPH A. DAVIS Davis has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He is a 1990 graduate of William Byrd High School.
\ ARMY MAJ. RONALD V. DOWNING has assumed command of the Yongsan District, Army Criminal Investigation Command, South Korea. He is the son of H. Jane Schuler of 3739 Southway Drive and Carroll A. Downing of Moneta. Downing is a 1973 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
\ THE NAVAL AND MARINE CORPS RESERVE CENTER in Roanoke recently recognized Petty Officer 2nd Class Kent A. Blackburn, Chief Petty Officer Kenneth C. Vaughan, and Petty Officer 3rd Class William A. Nevens, all of Roanoke. They received commendations for outstanding performance of duty, professionalism and overall dedication to the service.
\ ARMY CAPT. GREGORY W. WAGNER served in the Middle East with military forces participating in Operation Desert Storm. Wagner, an adjutant at Fort Stewart, Ga., is the son of Hazel P. Wagner of 3817 Greenland Ave. N.W.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT ANTHONY E. REGISTER, son of Wade A. Register Jr. of 1415 Abbey Circle, Vinton, and Patricia Rogers of 1212 Gilford Rd. N.W., has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla. He is a 1988 graduate of William Byrd High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS MICHAEL L. GILES, son of James F. and Fannie K. Giles of 3864 Long Meadow Ave. N.W., has reported for duty with Naval Submarine Support Facility New London in Groton, Conn. Giles is a 1986 graduate of William Fleming High School.
\ NAVY AIRMAN APPRENTICE TIMOTHY A. BILBRO, son of Gary M. and Joyce S. Bilbro of Buchanan, has completed training at Recruit Training Command in San Diego. Bilbro is a 1990 graduate of James River High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS PAUL F. CERAK, son of Paul F. and Patricia B. Cerak of 1901 Captain Drive, Salem, recently reported for duty aboard the fleet ballistic missile submarine USS Daniel Boone, based in Charleston, S.C. He is a 1989 graduate of Salem High School.
\ AIRMAN PATRICIA A. HOFFMAN, daughter of Robert E. and Linda K. Hoffman of 304 Pin Oak Drive, Blue Ridge, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
