The Roanoke Chapter of Links Inc. will hold its annual luncheon, fashion show and card party April 20 from noon-4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood.
The fashion show, featuring clothing for men and women, will be held during the luncheon. The card party will follow.
Proceeds will benefit the club's educational, civic and cultural projects. Tickets must be purchased by Friday. For more information, call 389-1793 or 989-3262.
Franzen Bros. Circus to perform Tuesday
The Franzen Bros. Circus will perform Tuesday at the former William Byrd athletic field off Gus Nicks Boulevard. Show times are 5:30 and 8 p.m.
The circus is sponsored by the Vinton Association of Merchants and Professionals, which will use a portion of the ticket sales to provide entertainment for future events.
Advanced tickets, which cost $5, may be purchased at Nancy's, DeLong's Department Store, Cundiff Drug Store, SOS The Office, W.E. Cundiff Realtors, Vinton Saw & Mower, or by calling 345-8548. Tickets also will be sold at the gate.
The circus is expected to arrive in Vinton between 9 and 10 the morning of the performance. The public is invited to watch the performing elephants help raise the performance tent.
VA Medical Center sets up call-in service
The Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center has set up a "Call-In Clinic" for patients who have established records at the center to schedule non-emergency appointments.
The clinic is designed to reduce patients' waiting time in the admissions office.
Patients may call 983-1098. Calls are answered by an answering machine requiring callers to provide their name, Social Security number and telephone number. Staff members then return the calls to patients.
The line is not to be used for rescheduling appointments, requests for medication refills or emergencies. For more information, call 982-2463, extension 1033.
Nominations sought for Civitan Club award
The Civitan Club of Roanoke is accepting nominations for its Good Samaritan Award for 1991.
The award is given each year to honor a Roanoke Valley resident for volunteer work. Letters of nomination may be sent to Robert W. Goodlatte, 126 Church Ave. S.W., Suite 200, Roanoke 24011. Nominations are open until April 30.
The winner, who will be chosen by a panel of three people who are not Civitan members, will be announced at a banquet May 24 at the Vinton War Memorial.
Church plans summer programs for children
Christ Lutheran Church, at 2011 Brandon Ave. S.W., will offer several several summer programs for children.
A School's Out Club for children in kindergarten through second grade will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-noon.
An expanded program with a geography and travel focus will be offered for pupils in third through fifth grades. It will be held the same hours on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
On Fridays from 9 a.m.-noon, children 2 years old to kindergarten age may enroll in a Mother's Morning Out enrichment program.
Sessions for the school-age children will begin the week of June 17 and continue through Aug. 19. The Friday morning program runs June 7-Aug. 30. Preschool tuition is $90 for the summer, and tuition for older youngsters is $120.

Upward Bound program to open registration
The Upward Bound program at Roanoke College is recruiting for its 1991-92 summer and fall college-preparatory sessions.
Interested students currently in the ninth, 10th or 11th grade and who attend Northside Junior High or Northside, Salem, Patrick Henry or William Fleming high schools should contact their guidance counselors for eligibility and program information.
All applications for admission must be turned in by May 3. Interviews will be conducted during the week of May 6. For information not available at the schools, call 375-2246 or 375-2314.
