Mr. David Graham Laphew, 80, of 572 Cumberland Road, Bluefield died Wednesday at his home. Born in Max Meadows he was the son of the late Guy Saunders Laphew and Elizabeth Blanch Smith Laphew. He worked 29 years for Olga Coal Company, then retired from Coppinger Machinery after 15 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield where he served on the Administrative Board, McDowell County Masonic Lodge #45 Wydham Chapter A.F. & A.M.; Welch Commandry #27 Knights Templar; Beni Kedam Shrine of Charleston; and the Triangle Sportsmans Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and eight brothers. Surviving are his wife, Anna Frances Johnston Laphew of Bluefield, W.Va.; daughters, Mrs. James V. (Betty Jane) Hickam of Roanoke; Mrs. C.H. (Fran) Alba, Jr. of Bluefield, Va.; sister, Mrs. S.R. (Frances) Alexander of Rockville, Md.; grandchildren, Cheyanne Hickam of Roanoke; Heather Alba of Bluefield, Va.; Kelly Alba of Bluefield, Va.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield with the Rev. James R. Denney and Rev. Curtis Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the Laphew Family Cemetery at Max Meadows. Friends may call today at Mercer Funeral Home from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
