OLD DOMINION BEATS TECH 6-5 IN BASEBALL

An errant pickoff attempt allowed 23rd-ranked Old Dominion to slip past Virginia Tech 6-5 in a non-conference college baseball game at English Field on Thursday.

ODU (26-1) scored the winning run in the eighth inning when Tech reliever Jamie Patteson's pickoff attempt to first base got away and Chris Everett scored from third.

The Hokies (14-17) begin a Metro Conference series against nationally ranked South Carolina today at 3 p.m. at English Field.
