2 PEOPLE SLAIN; MAN HOLDS OFF POLICE 9 HOURS

A Norfolk man was charged with capital murder Thursday after he allegedly shot and killed a brother and sister and then drank beer during a nine-hour standoff with police.

Clarence Edward Moore Jr., 29, surrendered about 4 a.m. Thursday. A judge ordered that he be held without bond.

Moore was charged with two counts of capital murder, one count of abduction and three counts of using a firearm in a felony.

The bodies of Raymond DePriest Jr., 23, of Richmond, and his sister Patricia DePriest, 22, were found when officers entered Moore's apartment, Detective W. Ray Williams said.

Another 22-year-old woman was released unharmed. Authorities said the woman was Moore's girlfriend and a cousin of the DePriests, but they declined to identify her.

Moore appeared before General District Judge Ralph Robertson, who scheduled a preliminary hearing April 30.

The standoff began about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday when police responded to a call about gunfire at the apartment building.

Police said the incident apparently stemmed from a domestic argument.
