FIRE VICTIM'S MOM ACCUSES SCHOOL

The mother of a Lynchburg College student killed in a fire near the campus has filed suit in Pennsylvania charging the school with negligence and breach of contract, according to court documents.

The suit also charges that reckless behavior by Lynchburg senior Ronald John Alberti Jr. contributed to the death of 18-year-old Rachel Robin Blair.

Blair, of Wyndmoor, Pa., died when the off-campus house where she was spending the night caught fire last Sept. 21.

David M. Levy, an associate counsel for the office, said the college has filed objections to the suit in Pennsylvania.

College President George N. Rainsford denied last week that the college could be held liable for Blair's death.

According to Deputy Fire Marshal John W. Jennings, the blaze was caused by fireworks thrown onto the porch. Remnants of fireworks were found in the charred remains of the house, which have since been demolished.
