The Area Nine Special Olympics Spring Games will be held Saturday at Radford High School's Bobcat Stadium. More than 300 mentally handicapped athletes will be taking part.

Volunteer registration is still being taken. Anyone wishing to volunteer can check in at the volunteer tent between 8-8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The games are free and open to the public. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. followed by competitions in track and field and tennis throughout the afternoon.

Athletes ranging from 8 to 80 are grouped by age, sex and ability level for competition. The athletes, from throughout the New River Valley, have been training for several weeks.
