NAVY AIRMAN BURIED AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Family, fellow sailors and politicians attended the funeral of a Virginia Beach man who was the first Navy casualty of the Persian Gulf War to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Lt. Patrick Kelly Connor, 25, was a navigator-bombardier on an A-6E Intruder attack bomber. The plane was lost on a combat mission off the coast of Kuwait on Feb. 2. Connor flew 14 missions during the war.

The Rev. Gary Elliott, a family minister from Syracuse, N.Y., quoted from the Bible, "I have fought a good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith."

About 150 people attended the service, including Sens. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y.; Alfonse D'Amato, R-N.Y.; and Reps. Harold Volkmer, D-Mo., and James Walsh, R-N.Y.; Secretary of the Navy Lawrence H. Garrett III; Adm. Frank B. Kelso II, chief of naval operations; and Vice Adm. J.K. Ready, naval air force commander, U.S. Atlantic fleet.
