Officers arrested Dennis M. King, 23, of Lowell, Mass., early Thursday, said Sheriff Ralph Williams.
The Massachusetts Department of Corrections in Boston sent the sheriff's department a teletype, saying King had escaped Wednesday afternoon and was believed to have been picked up by his grandmother, 79-year-old Elnor Lumbard of Falmouth.
Massachusetts authorities said King, convicted in 1988 of second-degree murder, is considered to be extremely dangerous.
"He and a co-defendant were both convicted of murder for beating another young man to death after they lured him to a sand pit," said Capt. Curt Wood of the Massachusetts corrections department.
He said an investigation is being conducted to determine how King escaped. Authorities said they have not decided whether to charge Lumbard with aiding her grandson's escape. - Associated Press
