At Glenvar, Doug Croy went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs and Mike Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and four stolen bases to lead the Highlanders past Lexington 15-4 in non-district play. Glenvar is 6-0, and Lexington is 3-2.
At Greenville, Scott Williams pitched a three-hit shutout as Alleghany blasted Riverheads 15-0 in a game called after five innings because of the 10-run "slaughter" rule. Heath Boggs hit a grand slam and drove in six runs for the Mountaineers (2-4). David Groseclose also homered, driving in three runs.
At Martinsville, Franco Martin held Bassett to seven hits and two walks and struck out six as the Bulldogs knocked off the Bengals 8-3. Martin, a sophomore, is 2-0 with three saves. Martinsville is 8-0, and Bassett is 3-5.
\ SOFTBALL: At the John Redd Smith Elementary field in Collinsville, Magna Vista rallied twice before taking a 10-8 Piedmont District victory over Fieldale-Collinsville.
The Warriors tied the score at 3 in the bottom of the first, pulled ahead 5-3 in the second, then fell behind 8-5 in the fifth before rallying again behind a double and a triple by Michelle Hayes, who went 2-for-4, drove in one run and scored twice.
Temika Hodge went 3-for-4 with a triple and two singles and two RBI for Magna Vista (5-2).
Cavaliers pitcher Cherie Joyce went 4-for-4, including a double, drove in three runs and scored twice.
At Hillsville, Mary Crabb smacked a three-run homer and Alice Edwards had two hits as Carroll County (1-2) held on for a 6-5 victory over Floyd County (2-3).
