SCHOOLS SHOW FILM ON MOTIVATING READING

An 80-minute film by Jim Trelease, entitled,"Reading Aloud: Motivating Children to Make Books Into Friends, Not Enemies," will be shown at Christiansburg Primary School, Monday at 6:45 p.m. and at Christiansburg Elementary School, Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.

In this film, Trelease looks beyond declining national skills and student scores, pointing instead to the encouraging results when parents and teachers serve as positive role models.

Trelease's film remarks are largely based on his book, "The Read Aloud Handbook," and his lecture tours. He has been a featured speaker for the American Library Association, the International Reading Association, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Council of Teachers of English.
