BILLIONAIRE SEEKS TO PURCHASE TWA

Billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian asked the Transportation Department on Friday to open a 60-day "window of opportunity" for him to seek to buy Trans World Airlines with its international routes intact.

Representatives of Kerkorian's Tracinda Corp. presented Transportation Secretary Samuel Skinner with a plan to expand TWA's routes, replace its aging fleet and attract new management.
