RICHFOOD GETS PACT WITH FARM FRESH

Richfood Holdings Inc., a Richmond-based grocery wholesaler and Farm Fresh Inc. of Norfolk, the largest Virginia-based supermarket chain, on Friday announced an eight-year supply agreement securing Richfood's position as principal supplier to Farm Fresh and its affiliated companies. Both companies do business in the Roanoke Valley. Farm Fresh operates a store on Plantation Road as Nick's Market.

Farm Fresh currently accounts for approximately 35 percent of Richfood's total sales volume of approximately $1 billion.

In consideration for the agreement, Richfood will make a cash payment to Farm Fresh and will assume, subject to landlord approval, certain leases and assets related to three `Food Carnival' stores in Raleigh, N.C. - Staff report
