The awards were presented during ceremonies in Charleston, S.C. Seventeen local advertising clubs in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina were represented.
Lindy Adams of Associated Advertising in Roanoke became governor of the district at the conclusion of the award presentations.
Three local agencies each received one Addy Award, the highest honor, on the district level. They were:
Edmonds Packett Group of Roanoke for a birth announcement.
Finnegan & Agee, a Richmond agency with an office in Roanoke, for a radio campaign created for Moore's Lumber and Building Supplies.
WSET-TV, Channel 13 in Lynchburg, for a sales kit promoting the station.
Three others received a total of six certificates of excellence, the second-highest award:
> The Jack Smith Agency of Roanoke won two citations for direct-mail campaigns for Bell South Communications Systems and a third award for a radio commercial on behalf of Wheat First Securities.
John Lambert Associates took one citation for a physician referral directory for Lewis-Gale Clinic and a second award for the annual report produced for Dominion Bankshares Corp.
Virginia Tech received a citation for "Land and Life" magazine published for the university's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The ad work that was captured the best-in-show citation at the Roanoke Addy award ceremony last February - a series of print ads by Jack Smith Agency for Texas Tavern - failed to place in the tri-state competition.
The district winners are eligible to enter the national competition. National winners will be announced June 9 at the annual meeting of the American Advertising Federation in Nashville, Tenn.
