FISHING CONTEST PITS BUSH AGAINST BASS

Three gunshots resounded Saturday through the woods, followed by strains of sweet Southern music wafting across the lake. President Bush scurried to cast his line, and the tournament was under way. The nation's most famous fisherman joined 20 other bass aficionados for the second annual Eagles of Angling Tournament in the Alabama woods outside Montgomery.

Bush attended after speaking at nearby Maxwell Air Force Base.

During the first 20 minutes that reporters watched from the shore, Bush managed to hook two small ones, but the second became ensnared in branches sticking up out of the lake. The tournament raised $100,000 for the Pintlala Baptist Church building fund.
