Mr. James Russell Martin, age 81, of Route 1, Fries, passed away Friday. Mr. Martin was a retail merchant for 35 years and a residential home builder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Burnette Martin, and by two sons, Jimmy Lee and Gerald R. Martin. He is survived by a daughter, Nadine Reedy, Dublin; daughter and son-in-law, Joan M. and Tommy Wilson of Fries; one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur E. and Mary Martin, Fries; a daughter-in-law, Joan Kizer Martin, Westminister, Md.; two sisters, Virginia Sullivan and Elsie Roop, both of Fries; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the North Fries Tabernacle with the Rev. Jay Fields and the Rev. Jesse Roop officiating. Burial will be in Monta Vista Memory Gardens. Pallbearers are Earl Dean Pierce Jr., Bill Shaffner, Jimmy Litteral, Cecil (Pete) Spraker, Livingston Akers, and Paul Williams. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 at the North Fries Tabernacle or at the home at anytime. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, is in charge of arrangements.
