METRO TICKETS GO ON SALE

Ticket books for the 1991 Metro Conference baseball tournament in Salem will go on sale Monday morning.

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will be held May 15-19 at Salem Municipal Field.

Tournament ticket books, good for admission to all 15 games, will cost $30 for a reserved chair back seat and $20 for an unreserved bleacher seat. Tickets will be available at the Salem Civic Center box office, the Virginia Tech Athletic Ticket Office at Cassell Coliseum and at any Ticketron location.

Tickets can be charged over the phone by calling 1-800-288-2122 or 1-800-VATECH4. Further ticket information can be obtained by calling 703-375-3004 or 1-800-VATECH4.

Group tickets for Little League teams will be available in the unreserved bleacher section, with groups of 20 or more paying $2 per single-day ticket. The deadline for purchasing group tickets will be Tuesday, May 7.

Virginia Tech, the host school, will be joined in the tournament by Florida State, Tulane, South Carolina, Memphis State, Southern Mississippi, Louisville and Cincinnati. Florida State, ranked No. 2 nationally, is one of three Metro schools rated in this week's Top 25. Tulane is ranked 18th, and South Carolina is 25th.

The tournament schedule will feature four games on Wednesday and Thursday, and three games on Friday and Saturday. One game will be played on Sunday if necessary. Game times for the first two rounds are scheduled for 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Friday's and Saturday's games are scheduled for 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Game times are approximate and may vary due to extra-inning games and weather delays. - Staff report
