AT VMI, JUSTICE BELIES ITS NAME

AMONG DEFINITIONS for "justice" in Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary are: "the quality of being just, impartial, or fair," and "conformity to truth, fact, or reason."

The title "Justice Department" is a gross misnomer. If the department wants to do what is just, impartial, or fair, why not prosecute those responsible for failing to eliminate poverty, homelessness, and general dereliction so obvious on the city streets? Why attempt to undermine VMI? Why not pursue conformity to truth, fact or reason?

The truth is the Justice Department has nothing better to do than stir up trouble and injustice for the innocent. VMI is far superior to any similar school (save The Citadel), and that arouses temerity in those dilettantes from Washington. They are engaged in this futile exercise to waste more of our taxpayers' money, contribute further to the budget deficit, and accomplish nothing but frustration and demoralization of some of America's finest young men. Needless to say, the current litigation over the admission of females to VMI is the epitome of what is absurd and contrary to good sense. ROBERT A. MEYERHOFF HARDY
