WE COMMEND the Rev. Raymond J. Lawrence Jr. for his splendid commentary April 3.

Since the "liberation of Kuwait, the end of hostilities in the gulf, and the return home of American troops" have not come to pass, what indeed gave our president the idea to proclaim three days of thanksgiving? Such a proclamation seems totally farcical! KIRK, JANET and BENNIE KESSLER ROANOKE
