WHO, WHEN & WHERE

Thomas Baugh, director of music at Roanoke's Christ Episcopal Church, will present an organ recital at the church on Friday.

The performance will begin at 8 p.m. On the program are works by Buxtehude, Bach, Daquin, Messiaen and Liszt that Baugh will perform during a concert tour of French cities this summer.

His concert will be the first public performance on the organ since it recently was renovated and revoiced.

The performance is open to the public free of charge. An offering will be collected to support musical events at the church during its upcoming centennial season.

Spring concert

The spring concert of the Roanoke Youth Symphony, the Junior Strings and the Preparatory Strings will be Sunday, April 28, in Clara Black Auditorium at Patrick Henry High School.

The program will feature Steven Wooddell, winner of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra's 1990 Young Artist Competition. He will play a movement of Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1. Other selections will showcase the brass and percussion sections.

James Glazebrook, concertmaster of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, is conductor of the Roanoke Youth Symphony. Joanne Steele conducts the Junior Strings and Preparatory Strings. She is a music teacher at Breckinridge Middle School in Roanoke.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. It is open to the public at no charge.
