VA. TECH SPLITS WITH GAMECOCKS

Virginia Tech staved off a late-inning rally to beat South Carolina 6-5 and earn a split of the Metro Conference doubleheader on Sunday.

The Gamecocks beat the Hokies 13-4 in the first game.

In the second game, the Gamecocks scored two seventh inning runs before Tech reliever Jonathan Frohm got Mac White to ground out for the final out of game, stranding two Gamecocks. It was Frohm's first save of the season.

In game one, South Carolina (31-14 overall, 7-8 Metro) banged out 13 hits, including two home runs, and Jared Baker allowed just three hits while striking out eight.

Roanoke native Jay Honse powered the Hokies (16-18, 6-5) in the first game by slamming his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot, and totaling four RBI.
