BRAIN PROTEIN REVEALS CLUE TO ALZHEIMER'S

An important clue to the cause of memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease has been discovered by researchers at the City of Hope medical facility in Duarte, Calif.

Biochemists report today in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that injections of fragments of a brain protein called beta-amyloid into the brains of mice cause the animals to forget tasks they have just learned.

The new findings are the first evidence for behavioral changes caused by the protein in living animals. - Los Angeles Times
