COUNTY WOMAN SLAIN

A 36-year-old Mount Pleasant woman was shot to death in her home just before midnight Sunday, possibly while answering her door, Roanoke County authorities said today.

Bonnie Sue Mullins of the 2800 block of Mount Pleasant Road died from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. Police have no suspects in the shooting.

Mullins' body was found lying near the front door of the house. Police would not comment on whether she had been shot through the door.

Authorities said Mullins' teen-aged daughter was asleep in the house when the shooting occurred. Mullins' husband, Jack Mullins, had been out with friends but arrived home soon after the shooting and, together with his daughter, discovered the body, police said.

Jack Mullins reported the shooting just after midnight.

Police said today that the motive for the shooting is unclear.
