HILLSVILLE - Charles Franklin Jonas, age 89, passed away at his home Monday. He was born in Wythe County, Va., January 31, 1902, a son of Elijah Hawkins Jonas and Sene Elizabeth Spraker Jonas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna I. Stuart Jonas; six daughters, Mrs. Lettie Dawn Saunders, Petersburg; Mrs. Elizabeth P. Hill, Mrs. Rebecca I. Horton, Ms. Freida Davis, Mrs. Sharon Davis, Mrs. Dora McFall, all of Hillsville; three sons, Carol B. Jonas, Hillsville; Benjamin Joell Jonas, High Point, N.C.; Charles Jonas, Jr., Roanoke; two brothers, Fred Jonas, Pulaski; Gordon Jonas, Radford; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Stuart, Ivanhoe; Mrs. Hattie Huddle, Rural Retreat; Mrs. Mary Howard, Alta Vista; Mrs. Elma Eversole, Wytheville; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 17, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Charles Mackey officiating with interment in the North End Cemetery in Hillsville. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
