At the end of the exhibit year, one or more pieces will be purchased for permanent installation as the university continues to build its collection.
The university hopes the competition, which is funded by the Student Activities Budget Committee, will open its collection to professional sculptors nationwide.
De la Burdes' donations include works by Phoebe Helman, Fritz Wotruba, Joanna Baranska-Bober and Frank Vegas.
The 16,000-square-foot court, the first outdoor sculpture collection established by a Virginia public university, is named for a 1984 alumnus, who, with her father, Roger, is a major donor to Radford University's art holdings.
Sculptors have been invited to submit slides of up to three works. Pieces will be selected based on artistic value, weather resistance and ease of maintenance. Call Doloris Vest Allen at 831-5324.
