Youth volunteers needed

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is enrolling students in grades 6 through 12 in its Summer Youth Volunteer Program. Applications are available at the museum and must be returned by June 1.

Youth volunteers assist with science workshops, participate in seminars and field trips, serve as interpreters on the exhibit floor, and aid curators with live animals and museum collections. At monthly meetings they meet local scientists and attend lectures.

Volunteers must attend a training session on June 24 and donate 75 hours in volunteer service. Some school systems award credit for participation. Students will be accepted based on their enthusiasm for science and their teachers' recommendations.

For more information, call John McLaughlin, volunteer coordinator, at 342-5710.
