WAGNER, BUCS SHUT OUT KINSTON

Paul Wagner pitched a four-hitter over eight innings as the Salem Buccaneers shut out the Kinston Indians 4-0 for their first Carolina League baseball victory of the year Monday.

The right-hander struck out eight and walked none for his first decision.

Salem manager Stan Cliburn gave Wagner a rave review.

"We needed that. We've had couple days off and he went out and got warmed up had a big-league performance out there," he said. "He's got a big league slider all the way."

First baseman Rich Aude, who finished 3-for-4, singled in the first run in the top of the first inning for all the runs the Bucs needed.

Kinston (3-1) never had a runner on third and the ninth inning was the only time they had more than one runner on base. Robert Person (0-1) gave up eight hits and three earned runs.
